Artist Norm Daniels recently participated in the Paint North Park Plein Air Paint Out at the Art Department of San Diego on Saturday, May 15 where he placed third in the competition. On Sunday, May 16 a Quick Draw competition was held where participating artists had two hours to do a local scene during the North Park festival of Arts where Norm took first place.

Malashock Dance at the Lyceum Theatre
Malashock Dance, with Yale Strom presents Chagall: A world premiere dance/musical with live music at the Lyceum Theatre in Horton Plaza. Marc Chagall’s life, loves and stunning images are the heart of a brand new dance/musical which also features a short concert by Yale Strom and Hot P’Stromi, followed by an encore performance of Strom/Malashock’s popular Tribes. In this world premiere, Strom and Malashock present three sections of their dance/musical, Chagall, an evocative telling of the artist’s changing loves and styles. Performances take place on Thursday, June 10 at 7:30 PM, Saturday, June 12 at 8:45 PM and Sunday, June 13 at 7:30 PM.

Friday Night Liberty
Friday Night Liberty , located at NTC Promenade at Liberty Station, is an event featuring free open artist studios, galleries and performances the first Friday of every month starting at 5:00 PM. The San Diego Museum of Art presents the solo show of Tijuana born artist Hugo Crosthwaite, who gives visitors a look at the fragility and beauty of humanity in his solo exhibition, Brutal Beauty: Drawings by Hugo Crosthwaite. On view through Sunday, July 18, the exhibition includes the on-site execution of a new, large-scale work of art by Crosthwaite, as well as two works from the Museum’s permanent collection and eight loans from private collections. Brutal Beauty: Drawings by Hugo Crosthwaite focuses on the artist’s rendering of the human figure and references baroque, surreal, film noir, popular culture, daily life and recent history.

Museum of Photographic Arts (MoPA)
The Museum of Photographic Arts in Balboa Park is pleased to present Taking Aim -Unforgettable Rock 'n' Roll Photographs Selected by Graham Nash. Taking Aim chronicles the history of rock ‘n’ roll, as chosen by one of its sons, Graham Nash of Crosby, Stills and Nash. This exhibition captures the spirit and essence of rock ‘n roll through powerful and iconic photographs of legends such as Elvis Presley, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Debbie Harry, Elvis Costello, and others. Taking Aim spans more than fifty years of music-making as seen through the eyes of 40 legendary photographers including Annie Leibovitz, Mick Rock, Francesco Scavullo, Graham Nash himself, and others. The selection of photographs presented in the exhibition expresses Graham’s view on the evolution of rock ‘n’ roll music, and depicts stunning images ranging from live stage performances to intimate, behind-the-scenes moments. Taking Aim is on view June 12 through September 26.
